Alberta Oil Magazine

Editorial Mandate

Alberta Oil magazine offers its readers a unique insight into the Canadian energy sector, a community attracting international attention as “the quiet energy superpower.”

Quiet because a temperate policy climate lets markets guide development, plays no favorites between home-grown and international investment and adapts to change in the natural, economic and political environment with evolutionary steps instead of revolutionary drama.

Superpower because a vast resource endowment, often only in early development stages, has enabled this community to emerge as the world’s seventh-largest oil producer, second-biggest natural gas exporter and a rare source of energy supply growth on an international scale.

This distinctively Canadian combination of moderation and natural wealth breeds companies by hundreds, jobs by tens of thousands, cash flows by billions of dollars, constant innovation and intriguing leaders.

In the pages of Alberta Oil, readers meet those individuals who are shaping the policy, the practices and the pursuits of Canada’s energy industry. The magazine provides readers with thoughtful and thought-provoking insight into the events, trends and developments that are unfolding as this industry moves into its expansive future

Alberta Oil is read by the energy sector’s senior leaders and decision-makers, throughout Alberta, across Canada and around the world.

A graduate of Acadia University and Ryerson’s School of Journalism, Darren has been working in the media since 1994. He spent most of his reporting and editing career in Canada’s North, where he served as editor of two Yellowknife-based business magazines – Far North Oil and Gas and Up Here Business. Darren’s developed a keen interest in the wild world of energy over the years, which should serve him well in his role with Alberta Oil. A life-long Philadelphia Flyers fan, he’s learned to forgive the Edmonton Oilers for denying his favorite hockey team a Stanley Cup title during the Oilers glory days in the 80s.
