The modest moguls winning the West
C-Suite Stars award winners, natural gas and a feed-in tariff in January's Alberta Oil
January is a month for new beginnings. There’s the new year, of course, replete with resolutions and the endless promise of personal renewal. There’s also new content at Alberta Oil. This month features our C-Suite Stars package: six executive profiles of engaging figures at the top of the corporate class. Three reads I can recommend off the top are profiles of Talisman Energy Inc. CEO John Manzoni, a sitdown with Steve Wuori, the chief of Enbridge Inc.’s liquids pipelines division, and a one-on-one with Ivor Ruste, the money man at Cenovus Energy Inc.
Other quick reads from the issue:
*Forget liquefied gas. Calgary-based Sea NG Corp. is floating the idea of transporting the cleanest burning fossil fuel by first compressing it.
*Speaking of gas, the race is on to find alternative uses for new supplies that are swamping North American markets. One widely accepted niche for the surfeit of supply is power generation, according to the Congressional Research Service.
*Still on the gas tip, Enbridge Inc. uses a lot of energy to shuttle petroleum products along its vast network of pipelines. The firm is using renewable energy to offset the power consumption of its liquids pipelines division, while also eyeing deals under Ontario’s vaunted Green Energy Act.
