Green oil sands production not a dream, Canadian Energy Research Institute says

Nuclear, carbon capture and gasification technology have a role to play

Earlier this year, the Canadian Energy Research Institute (CERI) put out a study detailing how, through widespread adoption of nuclear power, CCS and gasification, the oil sands can eventually produce the cleanest crude on the planet. To see exactly what calculations were used to come up with this result, a read through the CERI report “Green Bitumen: The Role of Nuclear, Gasification and CCS in Alberta’s Oil Sands,” is recommended but for a peek at the estimated effects, see the chart below.
