Welcome to the New Alberta Oil
A new look. New focus. New energy. That’s what we are bringing to this magazine. The structure of Alberta Oil includes seven regular departments:
Advances: science, engineering, research and development initiatives or breakthroughs on fronts from accounting to technology.
Operations: the latest developments in methods in commercial use from drilling to recruitment and training, and why they matter.
Passages: anniversaries, historic turning points, donations (or cancellations), departures, arrivals, and changes of the industry, government and regulatory guard.
Policy: cases, decisions, inquiries and reviews by all government and regulatory levels in Canada and jurisdictions that touch the Canadian industry, with emphasis on their practical effects.
Projects: a scorecard on new plans and the evolution of known ones, from oil sands mega-mines to field trials or pilot plants liable to start trends.
Transactions: takeovers, mergers, property acquisitions, corporate shuffles, financial trends – and how they make a difference.
Champions: people and teams who have emerged as industry icons by pursuing notable causes.
You will also find opinion editorials on such key issues as the environment and international markets. The meat of the magazine, the feature stories, will range across every aspect of the energy sector, including a cover package, as in this issue, which will offer several comprehensive articles on our identified topic.
We’ve increased the size of Alberta Oil to measure an expansive 9” x 10.75”, allowing us to accommodate the big ideas of the magazine. And we’re increasing
the frequency to six times per year, though you can expect at least one additional special interest issue per year as well.
We will also be taking our content online and expanding it to populate www.albertaoilmagazine.com. We know how keenly the world is observing the developments in Alberta and Canada and our website will be the authoritative source of information for both local and global audiences.
Once you’ve had the chance to read this issue, we’d love to get your feedback. E-mail either Gordon or me with ideas, criticisms, questions or comments – we welcome it all. Magazines are evolutionary entities that only become better with input from those they are intended to serve.
Finally, please indulge me as I publicly thank the team that worked so hard to create this issue of Alberta Oil and get it into your hands: Gordon Jaremko, Theresa Kwan, Paige Weir, Betty-Lou Smith, Geoff Cwiklewich, Kim Tannas, Andrea Cruickshank, Dennis McCormack, Josh Frederick, Ariel del Rosario, CJ Perrin and Anita McGillis.
